For five years I was the Communications & Accounts Manager for the Lake Street Council, the association for the small business community in the Lake Street corridor of South Minneapolis. In 2006, I stepped into this newly-created position as the Council as it expanded from one half-time to three full-time employees. It was a very gratifying experience to have the chance to build LSC's communications capacity from the ground up. We started with one dusty website that had the wrong mailing address. Here are a few of the things I took the lead on bringing to fruition:

  • Launched a weekly email newsletter to keep the Lake Street community informed and engaged on what is going on in the area and how LSC is serving them. In 2010, transitioned the newsletter to MailChimp, reaping huge rewards in design, user-friendliness, and analytics on this dedicated email marketing platform.
  • Created the "Visit Lake Street" social media campaigns on Facebook and Twitter, leading to one of my proudest, winning the Minnesota Monthly award for Best Twitter Feed in 2010.
